Community Council Meeting, November 14, 2017, 5:30-6:45

Present:

Tracy Sutton, Carlene Sommer, Alisa Buchanan, Mary Jo Williams, Julie Farr, Jason Hyer, Dina Blue, Michelle Gerritsen, Phyllis Vudivadhana

Absent:

Shane Campbell, Ryan Gentry

Minutes:

•Review & Ratify Minutes

*Michelle Gerritsen, 1st.  Phyllis Vudivadhana, 2nd.  Motion passed unanimously.

•Internet Safety

*Quinn Henderson presented the district plan for internet safety. The plan has two
parts:

1.) Monitor and control internet traffic. The district has two iboss gateway programs with a
filter as a third back up. They are constantly updating the filter. The filter works by grade and school level for both teachers and students. Ipads, chromebooks and computer labs are all covered by management systems.

2.) CIPA (Child Internet Protection Act)-We use Common Sense Media as a teacher resource to teach students about internet safety. Common Sense Media has many reviews for movies, games, apps., etc.

*Is there a district policy as to what happens if there is an internal breach?

•HB358: Protecting Student Data

*Regulates what happens with student data. MOA (Memo of Agreement) company signs to say that they will not sell our student data. Vetting-first it goes to an elementary and secondary committees, then websites/programs go to a curriculum committee, and last the MOA process is begun.

•2016-2017 Plan

*Committee members received copies to review

•2017-2018 Plan

*Looked at Budget and current totals were given for known expenditures at this point.

-Chromebook Lab = $3702, Professional Development = $1406.

*Talked about the effectiveness of the attendance program (95-96% attendance).

-Roy Cone elementaries competing for best monthly attendance average - Midland won for the month of October. Grade level competition held weekly at Midland.

*DIBELS scores for upper grades cannot be entered into the system used for upper grades because the company has not signed the MOA. Therefore, we have no data yet entered for grades 4-6 beginning of year DIBELS.

*Positive things are happening with math intervention groups because of the focus in PLCs. Discussed use of additional monies to help with intervention groups.

•Behavior Unit

*Question was posed as to how the Behavior Unit was doing? It’s been a learning experience for all of the population of Midland. Talked about how the regular education students are handling the different behaviors. What can the district do to help?

Next meeting:

*January 9, 2018 @5:30 p.m. in the school library
