•Internet Safety and Digital Leadership

*Presentation by Quinn Hendersen from District Technical Services

-The district has a two responsibilities: 1.) protect & filter school devices and computers; 2.) provide student safety online education.
-Filters: the district filters everything going in and out. There are two filters and firewalls in place so if one or two go down, there is a back up to the back up. The filters are based on curricular needs for six groupings; elementary students and staff, junior high students and staff, high school students and staff. Student ipads don’t allow access to the app store. On Chromebooks there is Google management software.
-Child Internet Protection: the district and teachers educate students about internet safety. Digital Literacy is the thoughtful and responsible use of technology. WSD did more this year to educate students and implemented the “Common Sense Digital Literacy Curriculum” which teaches students eight points of digital literacy. Thirty minute lessons are prepared by grade and build on the previous year. The lessons go from Kindergarten-12th grade. Parents are welcome and encouraged to look up the lesson plans at https://www.commonsensemedia.org/.

•2017-2018 Plan

*For next month, please review the last few years' plans and come prepared to plan for funding for next year's plan.

*Chromebook discussion: every classroom is wired to use them. They are so heavily used that we could justify another cart. We would lease them for 4 years ($2700 each year) and purchase a new cart (a one-time $1400). It would be an additional $575 for mice.

*PLC Conference Substitutes: there is solid research that PLCs enhance student learning (see handout). Mary Jo will send 8 teachers to a 3 day conference in September for a cost of $1470 for substitute teachers. Currently we have PLCs every week for one hour, some grades take more time. With the School Improvement Team driving changes in our school, they will be the most likely candidates to go to this conference.

•Parking Lot Discussion

*Nothing decided.

Future Meeting:

•Discuss with PTA- ways to get more parents to the meetings (DOJO); invite PTA to meet with us.
•Discuss wasy to get more people to volunteer in the classroom.
•Attendance: Use volunteers to call in the morning, automated system?

Next meeting:

•February 21st, @ 5:30 p.m.
•March 14th, @5:30 p.m.
