Community Council Minutes (2016-11-15)

Community Council Meeting, November 15, 2016

Present:

Mary Jo Williams, Phyllis Vudivadhana, Julie Farr, Dina Blue, Casi Parker

Absent:

Jason Hyer, Shane Campbell, Tracy Sutton, Carlene Sommer, Alisa Buchanan, Michelle Gerritsen, Ryan Gentry

Minutes:

•Approval of October 11, 2016 Meeting Minutes

*Motion: Phyllis Vudivadhana
*Second: Dina Blue

•Internet Safety and Digital Leadership

*Quinn Henderson was unable to attend the meeting.

•Amendment B

*Approved in 2016 Election

*Modifies a provision of the Utah Constitution relating to the permanent State School Fund. The Amendment makes three main changes:

1. It changes the description of what can be distributed from the State School Fund from “interest and dividends” to “earnings.”
2. It limits the amount of money that can be distributed from the State School Fund to 4% of the Fund, calculated as provided by statute
3. It changes the standard for how the state is required to invest the State School Fund from “safely” to “prudently.”

•Parking Lot Safety

*Buses are having a difficult time making the turn into the west parking lot. Cones are being placed at the south end of the entrance and behind the parked cars to provide room. Suggestions needed to help with the situation. Do we need to close the lot to all vehicles except buses and daycare vehicles?

•2017-2018 Plan

*Come prepared to discuss allocations at the January meeting. Consider allocating funds for a Chromebook lab lease. The cost would be approximately $2700 dollars a year for the next four years, set of 30 at $90 per Chromebook. Weber School District is suggesting that all Chromebooks and iPads go on a four year lease cycle. School will be responsible for those purchased with school funds.

Next meeting:

•Tuesday, January 10th @ 5:30 p.m.

Points of discussion to revisit:

• Discuss ways to get more volunteers into the classrooms.
• Ways to use volunteers to help with attendance.
• Making PTA meeting times more varied so that more working moms can attend: use social media to contact people.
• Delve into ways to improve our science testing scores.
