Community Council Minutes (2016-01-12)

Community Council Meeting, January 12, 2016 (pdf)

Present:

Shane Campbell, Dan Thompson, Carlene Sommer, Alisa Buchanan, Michelle Gerritsen, Mary Jo Williams, Phyllis Vudivadhana

Absent:

Jason Hyer, Casi Parker, Tracy Sutton

Minutes:

•After School Programs:

*Carlene S. called the local library to find out if they would send someone to lead a book club and was told no.
*Dan T. had questions from a martial arts business in regards to time and duration of program.
*Alisa B. didn’t have any new information.
*Michelle G. had been approached by a member of the community, Mr. Kolb, about a community garden.
*We need to think about permission slips, students walking home and students being picked up

•2016 – 2017 Plan:

*Last year’s allocation was $36,341.00 with a $2075.00 carryover.
*It was discussed that a little over two-thirds of the budget goes towards the reading aides. With the two aides the school is able to provide support for approximately 85 students. All DIBELS intensive students receive services and most of the DIBELS strategic students. Percentage of students in grades K-3 below benchmark at the beginning of the school year was shared.
*Michelle G. asked if money from Trustlands could be spent on chromebooks, the answer was yes. This question led to a discussion on the infrastructure needed for new/more technology.
*Mary Jo W. shared that Midland’s cost for the P.E. Specialist was minimal last year and that she felt the school could cover it for the upcoming year.
*Alyssa asked if the teachers would like the FAME program to continue. Michelle G. and Phyllis V. shared that it was collaborative time valued by the teachers and also provided a fine arts experience for the students.
*Brief discussion on whether the computer specialist’s salary would change, with the answer being that it would remain relatively stable since the number of classes should remain the same.
*Shane C. felt like we should keep the reading aides and Alyssa B. felt like we should increase the FAME schedule back to 26 weeks.

•Meetings:

*February 16th. All meetings are on Tuesday and begin at 5:00PM.

Next Meeting:

•February 16th
