Community Council Minutes (November 7, 2013)

Community Council Meeting November 7, 2013 5:00PM
Present: Crystal Stander, Shane Chapman, Tracy Sutton, Mary Jo Williams, Amanda White, Eric Wilkinson

Absent: Walt Jorgensen, Angie Johnson, Michelle Gerritsen, Valisa Dilworth, Phyllis Vudhivadhana, Kim Spendlove, Sherry Chadbourne

Minutes presented and approved: Amanda White motioned, Shane Campbell seconded

2013-2014 Goals and Budget

 

• lost some funding because of student decline: approx. $2,000
• none left over from this year for next year
• condominiums being built may increase student population

Reading Goal – DIBELS

• paraprofessionals for reading interventions
• increased aid hours to accommodate number of students
• higher number of kindergarteners and 1st graders needing intervention

Math

• must support academics
• use school benchmark assessments to indicate needs
• CRT data indicates needs
• Hired two math specialists to work with 5th and 6th grade students
Fame
• allows teachers collaboration time without having to spend time making lesson plans
• teaches about composers and artists
PE specialist
• gives teachers ½ hour of preparation time

Most money is gone to salaries and benefits of FAME and PE teachers, approx. $35,000 

Rules of Order and Procedure

• on the website
• parliamentary procedure: motion, second, passes by 2/3 of the council
• time line
• suggested add – how to removed someone from the council: we need meetings to be meaningful and in order for that to happen, people have to be present.

o 2 meetings missed they are notified and after the third meeting they are eliminated.
o Council can recruit during the year
o 2 year commitment

• council e-mails are on the website
• tie vote: lost vote, no conclusion, table it, discuss it and bring it up again.
• elections: if there are only two people they would just be added to the council

Extra rolls for the committee

• safety, ex. Parking lot
• community partners
• math training for parents
• what do other councils do?
